L. v. Beethoven
Bagatelles for Piano
Diego Caetano and Mario Aschauer, piano and fortepiano
The bagatelles reflect Beethoven’s diverse compositional cosmos in miniature. Technically, they range from moderate dexterity to demanding virtuosity. In addition to the well-known collections opp. 33, 119 and 126, ten pieces were found after Beethoven’s death in an envelope labelled “Bagatelles”. These included the revised version of “Für Elise” as well as two further bagatelles in previously unpublished versions.
HSH’s artistic director Mario Aschauer has produced a new edition of the Bagatelles for German publisher Bärenreiter. In a (forte)piano duel on modern and historical instruments with board member Diego Caetano he will present his fascinating findings along with his reconstruction of Beethoven’s later version of the infamous Elise.
